Mahendra Singh Dhoni or MS Dhoni is one of the most popular Indian cricketers. Background

Dhoni was born on July 7, 1981 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Pan Singh and Devaki Devi. One of his sister Jayanti and one brother Narendra Singh Dhoni. Basically his family was from Almora district of Uttarakhand. He studied at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir School in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Initially, during his school days, he used to play badminton and football, and in fact he was the goalkeeper of his football team. Once, he was sent by his football coach to play cricket for a local cricket club. It was in this match that he impressed everyone with his wicket-keeping skills, which resulted in him getting a regular post of wicketkeeper in the Commando Cricket Club. From 2001 to 2003, he worked as Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Kharagpur Railway Station under Mid East Railway in Midnapore (W).

Personal life

Dhoni married Sakshi Singh Rawat on July 4, 2010. The couple has a daughter, Jiva.

Career

Dhoni started his career playing in the Bihar Under-19 team in 1998. He also played for the East Zone Under-19 team. In 1999-2000, he made his debut for Bihar in Ranji Trophy. His spectacular performances in Deodhar Trophy, Duleep Trophy and India's tour A tour of Kenya brought him to the national team selectors. After that he was selected to play for the Indian cricket team in 2004, where he played his ODI match against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
Since then, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made a long way into cricket. His excellent performance from the bat has saved India from many tough conditions. In his illustrious career, Dhoni has played 90 Tests in Chennai in 2013 with 4876 runs against Australia against 224 runs. His amazing stats behind the stump include 256 catches and 38 stumpings.
In the ODI scenario, Dhoni has played 265 matches so far, in which he scored 8620 runs, in which his highest score was against Sri Lanka in 2005-06, against an unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka. His ODI wicket-keeping figures include 246 catches and 85 stumpings. Dhoni started the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007 and played only three matches due to India's early departure. India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup under their captaincy.
He is also the captain of the Chennai Super Kings team in the IPL (Indian Premier League). In his captaincy, the team has won two IPL titles and also won the Champions League Twenty20 in 2010.


Award

He has also got Man of the Series and Man of the Match Awards on several occasions. In 2008, he got his first Test Man of the Match award against Australia. It was Sri Lanka in India's ODI series in 2005-06 where they got their first Man of the Series award. He has also received the ICC Player of the Year Award for many consecutive years in 2008 and 2009, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007 and the Padma Shri award in 2009.

The retirement

After the drawn test between India and Australia in Melbourne, Dhoni announced his retirement from International Cricket on December 30, 2014. The reason is that after his immediate retirement, he has been forced to play cricket in all formats of the game. They also expressed the desire to focus better on ODIs and T-20 matches. However, on 4 January 2017, he withdrew from the post of captain of Indian ODI and T20I cricket teams, though he allegedly informed the Board about his availability for selection for the forthcoming series against England.

His 10 sixes in one innings is the sixth highest in ODI cricket.
He broke the record of Adam Gilchrist by scoring the highest score scored by a wicketkeeper by 183 runs.
He keeps a record of being the maximum dismissal by an Indian wicketkeeper in an innings.
In his captaincy, India reached the highest Test score of 726-9.
He is the only ODI captain who played at number seven and scored a century. They did this while playing against Pakistan in December 2012.
He is the first Indian wicket-keeper to reach 4000 Test runs.
